The good thing about this clip is that they have ridged part which is basically where the string will fit into and then as the close it’ll grab hold of the string and stop the clip from actually sliding down the string. There is a simple clip that snaps shut and then it’s easy to just press this tab and reopen it. So that way you can readjust the clip as necessary. And the good news is that you can reuse these clips year to year.

The picture above show you a close-up of how this vine clips actually works. One string and a couple of clips will actually hold this entire tomato plant up. Take a string here, put it into the hinged part of the clip and simply put this clip around the tomato plant. After click it closed, clips can’t move up and down, and the tomato plants stay pretty nice and sturdy, and also there’s enough room for the tomato to continue to grow and thicken. 

Sometimes some growers make string too taut, it will actually dig into the stem of the tomato, especially when the stem thickens as the tomato plant grows and it can actually cause damage to the stem. And it’s a little bit harder to do if growers forget to twist it early enough to get it around the stem without actually having to detach the string. So these clips are definitely a time saver and quite inexpensive per clip because it’s reusable.
